Thoughts on DevOps as a career path?

I'm a backend developer but increasingly interested in DevOps/SRE. The work seems more interesting to me than writing CRUD APIs.

Questions:

  • Is DevOps as well-compensated as SDE roles?
  • Is the demand growing or saturated?
  • What's the typical career progression (junior → senior → ?)?
  • Best certifications to get started? (AWS, Kubernetes, etc.)

Would love to hear from people who made the switch from SDE to DevOps.

Hey Isha, I transitioned from SDE to DevOps about 2 years ago. Compensation can be pretty competitive, similar to SDE roles, especially if you get into cloud-heavy positions. The demand is definitely growing, with more companies moving to cloud-native solutions.
