The real cost of living in Bangalore vs other cities

People often compare raw salary numbers without considering cost of living. Here's my monthly breakdown in Bangalore:

  • Rent (1BHK, decent area): ₹25,000-35,000
  • Food: ₹10,000-15,000
  • Transport: ₹3,000-5,000
  • Utilities + Internet: ₹3,000
  • Miscellaneous: ₹5,000-10,000

Total: ₹46,000-68,000/month

In my hometown (tier-2 city), same lifestyle costs maybe 60% of this. So a 20 LPA job in Bangalore ≈ 12 LPA in a tier-2 city.

Anyone has similar breakdowns for Hyderabad, Pune, or Chennai?

Interesting breakdown, thanks for sharing! In Chennai, rent is a bit lower but food costs are similar. One thing I find cheaper in Chennai is public transport, especially if you use the metro regularly.

Hey! Can you tell me which area you got a 1BHK for ₹25,000? I’m struggling to find anything under ₹30k in a decent locality. Are you living far out from the city center?

I totally agree with your point about Bangalore being expensive. I relocated from Pune and noticed that rent here is almost 1.5x what I paid there. Also, auto fares are higher, especially after dark!
