MBA after engineering - worth it for tech career?

I have 4 years of SDE experience and considering an MBA from a top IIM.

Pros I see:

  • Product management roles pay better long term
  • Network and brand value
  • Career acceleration into leadership

Cons:

  • 2 years out of the industry (tech moves fast)
  • Huge fee (25-30L for top IIMs)
  • No guarantee of landing PM role at a good tech company

Anyone here done this switch? Was it worth it financially and career-wise? Especially interested in hearing from folks who went IIM → tech PM.

I went through a similar journey, did my MBA from IIM-B after 3 years as an SDE. Honestly, the transition into a PM role in tech wasn't as straightforward as I hoped. The network and brand helped, but breaking into top tech companies required a lot of groundwork and networking, beyond just the degree.
