Is a Masters degree worth it for SDE roles?

I have 2 years of experience as an SDE in India. Considering doing an MS in the US primarily for better career opportunities.

But with the visa situation and the cost (30-40 lakhs+), is it still worth it? I've seen people with just a BTech getting into FAANG without an MS.

Would love to hear from people who:

  1. Did MS and found it worth it
  2. Did MS and regretted it
  3. Didn't do MS and still had a great career

I didn't go for an MS, and I've been working as an SDE in a mid-sized tech company. I think a lot depends on your goals. If you're aiming for top-tier companies in competitive roles, an MS might help.

I did an MS in CS from UCLA and don't regret it at all. It opened up many opportunities, especially in tech hubs like Silicon Valley. The network you build and the exposure to cutting-edge research are invaluable.
