Just switched from a startup to a well-known product company. Got a 70% hike. Here's what I did:

  1. Had multiple offers: This is the biggest leverage. Applied to 8 companies simultaneously.
  2. Never shared current CTC first: When asked, I said "I'm looking for X range based on market standards."
  3. Let competing offers drive bidding: Told Company A about Company B's offer and vice versa.
  4. Focused on total comp, not just base: Negotiated RSUs and joining bonus too.
  5. Was willing to walk away: This mindset is crucial.
